Raleigh / Carlton Super Course - 1980-81

Criterium Racing Cycle (Part 2)

2008 was progressing, I had replaced the tyres with new Bontrager kevlars and enjoying the extra performance in those. Unfortunately during a moment of tiredness @25mph I decided to kick through a turn instead of slowing down, and lost control and hit the road hard, bending the deraileur mount and wrecking the deraileur and backwheel.

Off to RevolutionCycles in Rockville and Marty who managed to straighten everything back out for me.

Then courtesy of eBay I located a replacement 36 hole Mavic rim of same vintage and the original SunTour deraileur. Marty then rebuilt the wheel and cleaned everything up (which ironically I'd been planning before the accident). Major kudos to Marty for getting everything running smoothly again.

Result looks truly great at this moment and the re-built wheel and new axle (that had cracked) are a transformation. So much smoother that I cannot wait for spring and ability to test this setup against my previous best times on my regular ride.

Note original Christophe of France toe clips on pedals with leather straps.
